Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies have shown potential in various sectors, including healthcare,
where they have been used to optimize drug utilization and reduce waste in outpatient pharmacy settings.
This meta-analysis aims to quantitatively evaluate the economic impact of AI on these specific areas of
healthcare. Following a rigorous selection process, 35 studies involving diverse AI applications were
included. The findings demonstrate a significant economic benefit associated with AI implementation,
achieved through enhanced pharmaceutical efficiency and waste reduction. Despite some heterogeneity
and potential publication bias, this analysis emphasizes the potential of AI applications to contribute to
cost-effectiveness and sustainability in healthcare. However, continuous research and stringent
standardization are recommended to ensure the optimal integration and assessment of AI technologies
in various healthcare settings.
