La légitimation de la ’nécessité logique’. La position de Hegel face à Fichte et Schelling dans la Préface à la Phénoménologie de l’esprit

Dans cette contribution, l’auteur s’interroge sur l’existence d’un fil conducteur permettant de s’orienter dans les grands systèmes la philosophie allemande classique et, en particulier, sur la place de la Phénoménologie de l’esprit dans ces confrontations. Pour ce faire, il expose d’abord les « trois positions relativement à l’extériorité » de Fichte, Schelling et Hegel. Les réponses à cette question sont 1/ le concept fichtéen d’une « hypothéticité catégorique » ; 2/ la distribution schellingienne de l’hypothétique et du catégorique dans la série des « époques » de l’« auto-objectivation du Moi » et la corrélation sujet-objet subjectif/sujet-objet objectif ; et 3/ la « méthode apagogique » hégélienne qui s’appuie sur le caractère auto-contradictoire du fini et la légitimation positive de la « nécessité logique ». Cette étude se termine par l’esquisse de deux amorces d’une dialectique : la doctrine fichtéenne de l’image et la dialectique hégélienne (dans la Préface de la Phénoménologie de l’esprit).

The Meaning of Transcendental Idealism in the work of F.W.J. Schelling

I seek to identify the specific nature of Schelling’s transcendental philosophy in the System of Transcendental Idealism. This transcendental philosophy implements two moments: a ‘transcendentalization of nature’ (containing the ‘real series’ as an expression of the ‘ideal series’) and the ‘self-objectification of the subject.’ In particular, it has to fulfill three tasks: unify (teleologically) theoretical and practical philosophy, specify the method of philosophy in relation to that of mathematics, and clarify the meaning of ‘construction.’ I then turn to the position that Schelling developed in his correspondence with Fichte, highlighting the ‘objective subject-object’ as the highest unity of the philosophy of nature and transcendental philosophy. This leads me to a discussion of what, if anything, of Schelling’s transcendental philosophy can reach us today in light of contemporary criticisms of philosophies of the subject, criticisms that argue they are unable to give a robust enough notion of reality.
