- PublicationAmbivalences du classicisme : Mahomet, de Voltaire à Goethe(2006)Since the end of the 18th century, the literary exchanges between French and German theatres are much more numerous. Lessing uses Diderots ideas in his Hamburgische Dramaturgie ; the work is translated into French in 1785. French culture has a deep influence on Schiller ; his work is very successful with the French stage. But the reaction against Kotzebues and Ifflands « historische und Familiengemälde » brings Goethe and Schiller towards classics, in order to promote ideal world and tragic fate. Schiller translates Racines Phèdre, Goethe Voltaires Mahomet. But the tiny alterations of his translation build a new interpretation of the hero and the story. The cynical and fanatic character becomes a dreamer and is a true prophet. He thus represents an image of the poet. And Goethe tries to create a new work from the « untranslatable » aspects of the drama.

The problem arising in his works is the following: how can you affirm your Arabic cultural identity if your whole work intends to study universality? And how can you take over the role of prophet for the entire humanity, if your poetry, at the same time, intends clearly to offer a new approach to Arabic poetical traditions? Adoni's work is settled in the middle of these contradictions, and tries not to solve them, but to explore them. To achieve this, Adonis uses the East not only geographically but also intellectually as a symbol of resistance against the way of life and the thinking of the West. Hence, poets of German romanticism and French poets become in his eyes poets of the Orient and therefore distinguished allies for his poetical theory.

However, among these objects made in clay, some of them are not tablet and were excavated in private tombs. Two of them are particularly interesting and enable to interrogate about their function. Did they constitute a part of the funeral material?

Its economic wealth allows the country to finance major security efforts. In front of the Iranian threat and of the Saudi greeds, the country practices a wide range of politics of prevention through diplomacy, control of populations and borders, strengthening of its alliances and military capacity building. These dynamics of growth at all levels (economic, financial, demographic notably) require security politics both on the domestic and regional front in this area of permanent instability.

; ;Theodorakopoulou, K. ;Kapsimalis, V.Panagiotopoulos, I.P.Trends in the vertical displacement (i.e. uplift or subsidence) of the Aegean Sea coastal zone have been assessed by comparing observational data with those derived from the predictive glacio-hydro-isostatic model of Lambeck and Purcell (2005) for a period spanning from the Mesolithic to the late Roman times. The data base comprises published studies that use both geomorphological (with associated biological material) and archaeological sea level indicators/markers. Localities demonstrating uplift of high amplitude were detected in front of the Hellenic Arc (Antikythira, Crete, Rhodes, Nisyros) and in the northeast Aegean region (Thrace), whilst areas experiencing tectonic subsidence were mainly observed in the central Aegean region which is characterized by an extensional tectonic domain. However, regional-scale tectonic particularities have caused uplift in parts of the west and east coast of central Aegean. Tectonically 'stable' sites can be found in the Cyclades Plateau, however, this is due to a balance between uplifting and subsiding movements. Sediment compaction and sediment loading may have affected districts with high sedimentation rates such as the Thessaloniki Plain-Thermaikos Gulf (NW Aegean). Finally, tectonic fragmentation of the coastal area in Minor Asia is responsible for localised uplifting and subsiding events. © The Author(s) 2011.632 122Scopus© Citations 67 - PublicationPalaeovegetational reconstruction of the Krios Valley, northern Achaea (Greece): Archaeobotanical analysis conducted as part of the Aegialia Survey Project(2012)
; ;Pontrandolfo, A. ;Scelza, F. ;Santoriello, A. ;Colaianni, G.Fiorentino, G.Since 2001 the Aegialia Survey Project (A.S.P.) has sought to reconstruct the dynamics of human occupation in Aegialia, northern Achaea (Greece). In doing so it has followed a multidisciplinary approach, with the involvement of various skills and institutions. The surveys in the Krios Valley also entailed the recognition and recording of the current flora in the area. The survey made it possible to identify the site of Kassaneva, characterised by a high concentration of ceramic artefacts near the surface, which were subsequently subjected to chrono-typological analysis and attributed to the Early Helladic II phase (3rd millennium B.C.). The archaeological excavation yielded palaeoenvironmental data directly from the ancient context. Specifically, systematic sampling strategies were adopted in order to recover burnt plant remains belonging to arboreal, shrub and herbaceous species. Together with data from the regional-scale palaeoenvironmental survey, the archaeobotanical analyses enabled us to reconstruct the palaeovege-tation in the Bronze Age and the ways in which ancient communities supplied themselves with fuel in numerous ecological areas. In addition, the recovery of seed and fruit remains provided a rare opportunity to highlight agricultural practices in these marginal and inland areas, raising questions about olive cultivation in Achaea from the Early Helladic period onwards.123 59
