- PublicationAmbivalences du classicisme : Mahomet, de Voltaire à Goethe(2006)Since the end of the 18th century, the literary exchanges between French and German theatres are much more numerous. Lessing uses Diderots ideas in his Hamburgische Dramaturgie ; the work is translated into French in 1785. French culture has a deep influence on Schiller ; his work is very successful with the French stage. But the reaction against Kotzebues and Ifflands « historische und Familiengemälde » brings Goethe and Schiller towards classics, in order to promote ideal world and tragic fate. Schiller translates Racines Phèdre, Goethe Voltaires Mahomet. But the tiny alterations of his translation build a new interpretation of the hero and the story. The cynical and fanatic character becomes a dreamer and is a true prophet. He thus represents an image of the poet. And Goethe tries to create a new work from the « untranslatable » aspects of the drama.

505 - PublicationArabité et poésie allemande : Adonis ou la nation des poètes(2007)The poetical work of the Syrian poet Adonis tries to answer the question of identity in a rather complex way. The problem arising in his works is the following: how can you affirm your Arabic cultural identity if your whole work intends to study universality? And how can you take over the role of prophet for the entire humanity, if your poetry, at the same time, intends clearly to offer a new approach to Arabic poetical traditions? Adoni's work is settled in the middle of these contradictions, and tries not to solve them, but to explore them. To achieve this, Adonis uses the East not only geographically but also intellectually as a symbol of resistance against the way of life and the thinking of the West. Hence, poets of German romanticism and French poets become in his eyes poets of the Orient and therefore distinguished allies for his poetical theory.
88 29 - PublicationDe l'intérêt des textes délaissés(2008)Most of the tablets and the fragments from Ugarit were discovered in the spaces delimited by the ancient constructions (royal palace, private houses) and belonged to their archives. However, among these objects made in clay, some of them are not tablet and were excavated in private tombs. Two of them are particularly interesting and enable to interrogate about their function. Did they constitute a part of the funeral material?

60 83 - PublicationThe geopolitical challenges of a new regional power: The United Arab Emirates | Les défis géopolitiques d'une nouvelle puissance régionale: Les émirats arabes unis(2009)The new geopolitical challenges for the United Arab Emirates are numerous and complex because of its strategic position in the Gulf. Its economic wealth allows the country to finance major security efforts. In front of the Iranian threat and of the Saudi greeds, the country practices a wide range of politics of prevention through diplomacy, control of populations and borders, strengthening of its alliances and military capacity building. These dynamics of growth at all levels (economic, financial, demographic notably) require security politics both on the domestic and regional front in this area of permanent instability.
100 76 - PublicationPalaeoenvironmental evolution, sea-level changes and Human occupation in Lemnos Island during last 6000 years (North Aegean Sea, Greece)(2012)The mapping demonstrates the abundance of glacial landforms in the study area. In addition to familiar forms such as moraines and U-shaped valleys, forms previously unknown in the Andes – trimline moraines – could be detected. Their age determination is in progress at the moment. On the basis of the mapped glacial forms, it was possible to reconstruct equilibrium lines for a sampling of several localities, which, along with the chronological classification, can shed light on the climatic change during past phases of glaciation. In the western Pampas of Argentina (33 – 36 S, San Luis province, South America) there are extensive late Quaternary aeolian sand deposits forming diverse depositional systems. This region is almost completely covered by a savanna dominated by Prosopis caldenia and profuse grass-land (Espinalphytogeographical province). The northern region, from the distal piedmont of the San Luis ranges to about the alluvial plain of the Quinto River, is mostly covered by aeolian sand sheets, associated with ephemeral arroyos and, occasionally, with partially eroded dunes. From here to the south, and passing transitionally to the southern and central Pampas of Córdoba and La Pampa provinces, the landscape is dominated by diverse suite of dunes. The most conspicuous feature of the central area is the presence of large (up to 4 km long), compound parabolic dunes and blowouts, with two main orientations. One set of parabolic dunes accret-ted with southeasterly paleowinds, whereas most of the parabolic dunes and blowouts in the eastern region were formed by northeasterly paleo-winds. Both directions are consistent with present wind data (1995-2004). Several parabolic and blowout depressions create freshwater lakes, likely filled by groudwater. Southern San Luis province presents complex linear dunes, with a NNW trending that extends for more than 25 km. This linear pattern is formed by the coalescence of parabolic dunes, which indicate southeasterly paleowinds. Sedimentological analysis and OSL dating reveal episodic sand sheet deposition between ca. 33 and 25 ka, with a potentially high lake stand at ca. 11.4 ka. Dune reactivation, possible developing parabolic dunes, appears to have occurred during different times of the Holocene (ca. 9.7 to 1.6 ka). This study reveals this aeolian landscape reflects significant paleoenviromental changes along the late Pleistocene-Holocene, adding new chronological constrained deposits to compare and study past arid systems.

;Hallberg, Rolf O. ;Kanellopoulos, Theodore D. ;Koutsopoulou, Eleni; ;Schmidt, Mark ;Karageorgis, Aristomenis P. ;Tripsanas, Efthymios K. ;Anagnostou, Christos L.Mavromatis, VasileiosThe Pagassitikos Gulf in Greece is a semi-enclosed bay with a maximum depth of 102 m. According to the present-day bathymetric configuration and the sea level during the latest Pleistocene, the gulf would have been isolated from the open sea, forming a palaeolake since ~32 cal. ka b. p. Sediment core B-4 was recovered from the deepest sector of the gulf and revealed evidence of a totally different depositional environment in the lowest part of the core: this contained light grey-coloured sediments, contrasting strongly with overlying olive grey muds. Multi-proxy analyses showed the predominance of carbonate minerals (aragonite, dolomite and calcite) and gypsum in the lowest part of the core. Carbonate mineral deposition can be attributed to autochthonous precipitation that took place in a saline palaeolake with high evaporation rates during the last glacial-early deglacial period; the lowest core sample to be AMS 14C dated provided an age of 19.53 cal. ka b. p. The palaeolake was presumably reconnected to the open sea at ~13.2 cal. ka b. p. during the last sea-level rise, marking the commencement of marine sedimentation characterised by the predominance of terrigenous aluminosilicates and fairly constant depositional conditions lasting up to the present day.Scopus© Citations 8 138 75
